Journal Entry #1912: An Interesting Hypothesis

Well this is an interesting discovery and hypothesis: Can a Broadway play be promoted via a “movie trailer?”

Well that’s exactly what’s going on with Willy Wonka.

In promoting a musical version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the production company is using trailer-style video teasers.

It’s not often that Broadway musicals get big-budget film trailers, but as the musical version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” heads to New York from London, it’s being promoted by a VFX-heavy campaign that imagines Willy Wonka’s arrival in Manhattan.

The campaign was written and directed by AKA creative team Jamaal and Bashan, and involved shoots at 22 sites across the city.

We lab rats just love it when creatives experiment with traditional elements and blend them in new and innovative ways. That’s how magic happens!

 

I shall follow this experiment closely, and report back on my findings as results come back.
